For patients before surgery
For patients before surgery It is not uncommon that patients from abroad have the preoperative assessment completed in their home country. To help in the preparation for surgery please see the list below:
- Full blood count , blood chemistry , blood sugar coming liver function
- Coagulation panel – INR
- Urine analysis – in case of sign of infection appropriate treatment is necessary you. Chest x ray
- Blood group and antibodies – for arthroplasty only
- If you see a cardiologist regularly please bring your most recent reports
- If you have a pacemaker please bring your most current assessment with you
The list of necessary medical investigations is always individual, therefore your anaesthesiologist might request additional assessments. On the other hand some smaller surgeries need only very minor preoperative assessment. Please note, the results must be not older than one month (chest x-ray not older than one year). Six weeks before and after surgery it is suggested that you do not have immunization! Please do not forget to bring your regular medications and the prescribed chemical thromboprophylaxis with you to the hospital!
On the day of surgery
Patients are admitted to the hospital in the morning of the surgery. (Address: Hajdu street 15, Tata, 2890, Hungary) As a preparation for surgery, please do not eat any food after 8 p.m. and do not drink after 10 p.m. Please refrain from smoking and chewing gums after then. If you take heart medications you may have your regular tablets with a sip of clear water in the morning of the surgery. If you are diabetic it is recommended that you have your blood sugar well controlled in the preoperative weeks. In the morning of the surgery please do not take your anti diabetic medication and please do not administeryour insulin. If you have any food allergies, if you are vegetarian or have any specific nutritional restrictions please let us know in advance! Between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. patients are being admitted to the hospital. Please bring your medical reports, MRI , x-ray with you. Once the admission is completed at the reception you might be asked to sit in the waiting lounge and wait for admission to the ward.
Admission to the ward
We try to do our best to make your stay in our hospital as smooth and pleasant as possible. For your comfort please bring your personal hygienic accessories, night clothing, regular medications, blood thinner injections, orthopedic braces or crutches if applicable. A cabinet will be assigned to you to put your belongings away. Also a safe is available if you want to have your valuables locked away during your stay. All rooms have refrigerators, free television and free Wi-Fi internet access. For the internet access code please ask our receptionists.
Recovery on the ward
Patients staying more than one night can choose a lunch menu from three options. Tea and drinking water is provided. From day 2 after surgery fresh coffee is available for our patients.
Visiting time for relatives and friends is between 10 and 12 o’clock in the morning and 4 and 7 o’clock in the afternoon. Please respect our patients need for rest and try to adhere to these periods. On the day of the surgery exercises in bed are suggested. Individually planned physiotherapy program will start in the morning the day after surgery. Restrictions regarding postoperative rehabilitation will be explained, mobilization will be started.
Your home exercises will be taught by our physiotherapist in accordance to the suggestion of your operating surgeon. As soon as you return home please contact your home physiotherapist to continue the postoperative rehabilitation program
Discharge from the hospital
On the last day patients are prepared for discharge by 8-9 a.m. Occasionally patients will be discharged from thehospital somewhat earlier or later. Relatives are welcome to help patients to get ready for discharge from 8 o’clock . During discharge patients are provided two copies of discharge report, prescriptions for necessary aids (e.g., crutches, etc.) and prescription for pain medications if needed. Your bill will be issued during your stay. Payments are accepted in cash only (Hungarian forint or Euro). In case of money wiring please complete your transfer by the time of admission and bring your receipt with you. If you want the bill to be issued to your sports club or insurance company please let the receptionists know in advance. Date for follow up appointment, stitch removal will be set individually with your operating surgeon. if you develop any significant medical problem in the postoperative days see a doctor immediately, or contact your operating surgeon or our clinic via telephone as noted on your discharge report.
